SSID

DHCP

DNS

A system that translates domain names (like a website address) into the numeric IP addresses that computers use to communicate. Your router typically handles DNS automatically.

Zigbee

Matter

An open smart home connectivity standard designed to make devices from different manufacturers work together seamlessly without proprietary bridges or adapters.

HDMI ARC

A feature on designated HDMI ports that allows audio to travel from a TV back to a soundbar or receiver over the same cable, reducing cable clutter. eARC is an enhanced version supporting higher-quality audio formats.

Mesh Wi-Fi

A home Wi-Fi system that uses two or more router nodes working together to deliver consistent wireless coverage across a larger area than a single router typically can.

Ethernet

A wired networking connection between a device and a router or network switch, using a physical cable. Ethernet connections are typically faster and more stable than Wi-Fi.

Hub (Smart Home)

A central device that bridges smart home gadgets using protocols like Zigbee or Z-Wave to your home Wi-Fi network. Without a hub, those devices usually can't connect to your phone or smart home app.

4K Resolution

A display resolution standard of approximately 3840 × 2160 pixels. Displaying 4K content requires a compatible screen, source, and appropriate HDMI cable bandwidth.

Wi-Fi Band

The radio frequency range your Wi-Fi network operates on. Common bands are 2.4 GHz (longer range, slower) and 5 GHz (shorter range, faster). Wi-Fi 6E adds a 6 GHz band for even higher performance.

Z-Wave

A low-power wireless protocol used in smart home devices, similar to Zigbee but operating on a different frequency. Z-Wave devices also form mesh networks and generally require a hub for full functionality.

SSID (Service Set Identifier) is simply the name of your Wi-Fi network — the one you tap on your phone when connecting. You can rename it to anything you like in your router's settings.

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is the system your router uses to automatically assign an IP address to each device that connects. You rarely need to touch this setting, but you'll see it referenced if you're doing any manual network configuration.

DNS (Domain Name System) translates human-readable web addresses like example.com into numeric IP addresses computers understand. Your router handles this automatically, though some users switch to alternative DNS servers for speed or privacy reasons.

Band refers to the radio frequency your Wi-Fi uses: 2.4 GHz travels farther and penetrates walls better; 5 GHz is faster but shorter-range. Audio and Video Connection Terms

4K refers to a display resolution of approximately 4,000 horizontal pixels (typically 3840 × 2160).
